THE CONCEPT

The goal of this backpacker trip, is to know the inside of an unknown and full of contrasts country as it´s Peru. To know both it´s surprising landscapes, where we can see ourself higher than 4000m high, in an Amazon forest with waterfalls, glaciers or seeing mountains of more than 6000m high full of snow, such as knowing its nations, its culture, its customs and ways of living the life.
An intense trip of sensations and experiences that we will never forget, since Peru offers us an endeless number of possibilities to live this adventure trip.

THE PLACE WHERE WE ARE GOING
We should be warned to enjoy the place that we will be visiting, as if we don´t know where we are going we could have a bad experience.
Peru and its villages are incredible places but very different from what we are used to and their ways of life or act could surprise or shocked us.
In the country there are many cities full of history, monument and shopping areas but there´re also many villages where there´s no electricity, where children run barefoot… A place without sidewalks, nor roads, where donkeys will passed us while we do all our best not to have a dung under our feet and many extrange situations like this.
Except cities as Lima, Arequipa or Cusco, you can see that it´s not going to be any luxury trip since it´s a question of coexisting and of seeing ways of surviving. So we need to be sure of where we are going and what we will experience. We assure you will be surprised!!

PROGRAMME
SUNDAY 1st OF SEPTEMBER:
You can take any flights, also coming from other countries even for days before, but be aware that if you byt separate flight tickets and there´s any delay the companies have no risponsibility if you miss the next flight. So or you buy all connected flight with the same company or take enought time between flight. The trip will star with the accomodation of Friday the 1st of June in Arequipa, so organise yourself to be there on time. As we will all be dead after flying that long, we will have dinner in a restaurant and we will spend the night in a hotel (shared rooms) to rest for next day. The adventure starts!!
MONDAY 2 :
For this first day, after breakfast, we will be picked up early in the morning (we could discuss the time if we consider we are too tired) and it will take us around 50 minutes to get to our first activity, rafting!!! High Speeds of level II and IV where will have lot of fun. (Anyway is optional). After that we will come back to Arequipa to enjoy our meal in a traditional peruvian “Picanteria”. You will see how much peruvians eat!! The afternoon will be dedicated to see the historical part of the city. And we will come to the hotel to sleep.

TUESDAY 3:
Before checking out the hotel, we will need to take the minimum clothes and equipment for the next 2 days (which would need to be enough to be carried in the small bag), leaving the rest of the luggage in hotel´s luggage store. We will start with the Colca Canyon trekking. A very beautiful trekking to start acclimating to the height. We will be for 2 days between heights of 2500 and 3000 metres. The first journey day we will wake up at around 5am and after 3 hours drive we will arrive to the Condors viewpoint having some free time to enjoy the flight of these birds and the stunning views of the canyon. After this time we will start with the trekking descending to the canyon (approx. 1000m) and we will cross the river to get to the restaurant where we will have lunch on our way. After lunch we will continue with the trekking until we get to the oasis where we will spend the night and from where you won´t like to leave (shared rooms).

WEDNESDAY 4:
We will wake up very early to ascent again this 1000m without much sun. Once on the top, we will have breakfast (so reccommended to take some light snack as cookies, nuts, or energy bars for the early morning) and get back to Arequipa, passing by a mountain range of about 5000m high and where we will see the typical “llamas” and “alpacas”. We will pick up our luggage and we will sleep in a bed-bus on the way to Cusco (10h).

THURSDAY 5 :
We will wake up in Cusco and we will have free time all day to visit the city, its monuments and to acclimate to our new height of 3500m.
FRIDAY 6:
We will wake up early and e picked up to get to the Sacred Valley after 1 hour driving. We will ascend the highest Via Ferrata of South America (400m) and then after a picninc, we will descent all the way back by a safe and super funny zipline circuit of up to 800m!! And incredible activity that you cannot miss. In the afternoon, we will get back to Cusco where we will have dinner and spend the night.

SATURDAY 7:
We will start with one of our main goals of the trip. One of the trekkings of “The best and most beautiful trekkings of the planet” list. We will be driven by minibus to Mollepata and where we will start hiking until we get to Soraypampa, our first camp. We will hike for around 4-5 hours and we will sleep in tents.

SUNDAY 8:
This second day will be the longest journey but also stunning. We will hike for around 2 hours until the highest point of this journey at “Abra” or “Paso del Salkantay” (4600m), From this point we will have a wonderful view of “Nevado de Salkantay” with its 6200m high. After this, we will start descending for around 3:30h getting to Huayracmachav. Here we will have lunch and after a short break we will continue all the way down crossing the jungle until we reach Chaullay, where we will spend the night in a curious jungle camping.

MONDAY 9:
After breakfast, at around 6:30, we will offer 2 options depending on how we feel. We could start hiking again through the high jungle, crossing the river of Lluskamayo and a variety of small creeks, valleys and waterfalls until Playa Sahuayaco or we could get a car to save energy and time to enjoy the most posible time in Santa Teresa´s hot springs. You won´t like to leave. We will have dinner and spend the night there.

TUESDAY 10:
Another incredible trekking day is awaiting us. This time we will depart from “hidroeléctrica” passing through the forest, crossing bridges and going the most of the time next to the trail road tracks close to a river and getting in the afternoon to “Aguas Calientes” village. We will have lunch on our way in a kind of restaurant in the middle of the jungle. During the afteroon we will have free time to visit the village.

WEDNESDAY 11:
Today is the day of visiting the ruins of Machu Picchu. Early in the morning we will climb many stairs up until we reach the citadel of Machu Picchu. There we will enjoy a guided visit and have time to make pictures. In the afternoon, we will get up to the train that will take us back to Cusco and where we will have dinner and spend the night.

THURSDAY 12:
After all this long days, we have won a resting day, don´t you think so? Free time to rest, have lunch or even a massage!!
FRIDAY 13:
And for the last day another main course of the trip. The “Rainbow Mountain” or “Hill of colours”.For many of you will be the first time at a height higher than 5000m!!! We will ascend by an easy an confy path (our handicap could be the height, but nothing that cannot be fixed descending). A volcanic landscape catalogued by National Geographic as one of the 100 places that you must visit before dying. So here´s your opportunity. Once we confirm the trip, you can buy your flights.
We recommend not to buy the flights before this moment.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:
About the required equipment we will need to basically take winter clothes, as in June will be winter season and temperatures usually go from 14 during the day and it can go to -10 in the night in some of the places where we will be. But fresh and confortable clothes will also be needed during the trekkings and city visits.
CLOTHES: We´ll need to take comfortable and sporty clothes (trekking pants, technical/breathable T-shirts) for the days that we´ll be at Berber villages or Marrakech. However for the hiking to the Toubkal it will be much colder as it will mostly probably it will be snow and temperature will probably be under 0 degrees. For this we wil need mountain waterproof boots (preferibly with Goretex), waterproof and warm pants, termic underwear, polars, leggins and shirts, mountain jacket, windstopper, feader or synthetic jacket, gloves, winter hat, necklwear, anything for the cold!! But also a hut for the sun.
BACKPACKS: We suggest to take backpack between 40-60l for the transport but also an smaller one max. 3ol for the trekkings to bring small things such as water, windstopper or down jackets, photo camera, suncream… Trolleys are not adecuated for this kind of trips as they are not confortable to be carried by donkeys.
If someone would like to wash at the old tradition way it would be possible, but we suggest to take enough clothes for each day as it won´t be easy to dry them.
HYGIENIC PRODUCTS: In some places where we will be we won´t have much water and we overvalue being showered!! Because of the conditions that we will have we suggest to take hygienic towels, soap, deodorant and different ways of selfcleaning.
MEDICINE CHEST: We will bring a medicine and a first aid kit for little injuries, bites… but as we are not allowed to give any medicine nor pills, we reccommend you to bring with your main medicines for headaches, muscular pains, stomach upsets, for rubbes...
PASSPORT: check you own conditions to enter the countru as it will be checked when travelling to Peru.
MONEY: You can pay by card in many places but there´s an extra charge for it and it won´t be accepted in all places. So cash will be much better. Even if not much cash is necessary it will depend on your personal shoppings as for daily drinks in small villages it won´t be necessary much money. Anyway is up to each participant to take as much money as they´d like to.
VARIETIES:
Without doubt we should always have to bring a camera with us. A headlight will also be very helpful for the early departing trekkings or refuge nights as it´s bateries. Walking steaks are always helpful as they will help us save some energy. And of course a warm sleeping bag. In some places it will also be the possibility of hiring it. If you would prefer to hire it, let us know in advance so we can organizate it.
